Teaching
Dance education is central to Shantel's work. Her teaching experience spans undergraduate and postgraduate programmes mainly in the UK and USA, including posts at Dance City/University of Sunderland, University of Surrey, Bath Spa University, Trinity Laban, and the University of California, Irvine.
Her teaching utilises an action research framework and is informed by experiences as an interdisciplinary artist scholar with a strong movement practice, publication record, and practice as research portfolio. Courses designed and delivered to-date cross practice and theory and include: Choreography, Collaborative Project, Contemporary Dance Practices, The Dancer's Body, Dance Pedagogy, Reflexive Praxis, Safe Dance Practice(s), Performance Psychology, Research Methods, Dissertation.
Shantel has supervised and examined a wide range of independent projects in dance and performance, including at MFA and PhD-level.
